Emotional Support at Oakhill

We understand that growing up can bring many challenges, and as a parent or carer, you want the very best for your child’s wellbeing. This page is here to offer clear guidance, practical tools, and access to services that support children and young people with their emotional health. Whether you’re seeking advice, looking for local support options, or simply wanting to understand more about how to help, you’ll find information designed to reassure, empower, and connect you with the right help at the right time.

Our School Sanctuary provides dedicated mental health support for the children in our school. Across the Federation, we have four members of staff who are fully trained Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA).

Our ELSA's offer a caring, confidential “listening ear” service that supports the emotional wellbeing of our pupils. This provision is available to help children through times of difficulty, such as bereavement, change, sadness, anxiety, or any other emotional or mental health concern.

The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in Tamworth provides early intervention and low‑intensity mental health support for children aged 5–18 across local primary schools. The team offers one‑to‑one and group support for mild to moderate difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, sleep problems, panic, exam stress and worries.

MHST practitioners also work closely with each school’s Senior Mental Health Lead to strengthen a whole‑school approach to wellbeing, delivering classroom workshops, staff training, parent sessions and signposting families to the right services when additional support is needed.

Additional support available for families:

Staywell is a support service in Staffordshire designed to help children and young people who may be struggling with their emotional wellbeing, behaviour, or mental health. One of the key strengths of the service is that families, carers, and young people themselves can make a self‑referral without needing to go through a GP, school, or another professional. This makes the service easier to access and ensures that support can begin as soon as concerns arise, rather than waiting for a formal assessment or professional referral.

Support through Staywell is tailored to the child or young person, with options that may include one‑to‑one sessions, group work, practical strategies for home and school, or signposting to more specialist services if needed. The aim is to provide early, accessible help that promotes resilience, emotional health, and positive relationships. By allowing self‑referral, Staywell makes it easier for families to access help at the right time, reducing the impact of difficulties and supporting children to feel more confident and secure.
