French

We aim that by the time pupils leave the Federation of Hanbury’s Farm and Oakhill Primary they will be confident to speak in basic French for a range of situations as well as being able to listen and respond in French.

Our intent is that all pupils will develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages, finding them enjoyable and stimulating.  Learning French will also offer pupils the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them with a better awareness of self, others and cultural differences.

The aim is that they will be working towards becoming life-long language learners. We use a new scheme of work designed by language specialists at the CAM Academy Trust, which focusses on phonics, grammar and vocabulary. This is the recommended best practice based on expert research and we are already seeing great progress in children's pronunciation and understanding of the language, which will ultimately lead them to become more confident in conversing in French.

Each year we celebrate Bastille Day to offer an opportunity for all children (including Early Years and KS1) to be exposed to some French language and vocabulary. Below are some pictures of past Bastille Day celebrations.
