Growing and Succeeding Together

Year 6

Here is our Year 6 Christmas video!

Welcome to Year 6 with Mrs Price and Miss Heaven

Below you will find some useful information about Year 6.

Here is your classroom...

Your start time is 8:45am

Your finish time is 3:00pm

Your PE day is a Tuesday. Please come to school in your kit.

Your kit should consist of a white T-shirt, black shorts or joggers and pumps or trainers. You can also wear a black hoodie or sweater to keep you warm outdoors.

We are now doing The Daily Mile. The aim of The Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our pupils... and staff!

At the moment, we are studying World War Two and have been using marvellous texts to bring the period alive. These texts place particular emphasis on how children coped during this period and provide an understanding of how many survived and endured unimaginable atrocities. We have been particularly moved while discussing the life of Anne Frank, and we will shortly move on to read The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, as we come close to finishing The Machine Gunners, which sparked much lively and interesting class discussion.

The children are making good progress in Reading. Reading Plus has been an invaluable online resource during this period and the Year 6 children have engaged with it extremely well. I encourage them to make maximum use of this brilliant resource, which constitutes a significant investment by the school, because it will not be available to them once they progress to Year 7.

In Maths, as we head to the end of the year, we will be enjoying geometry and algebra, as well as percentages, decimals and ratio. The children are making great progress in this area and we have spent several weeks on a catch-up programme that has really assisted in filling the gaps resulting from the lockdown period.

Year 6 are lucky enough to be participarting in forest school this year on a Thursday. Please make sure you bring layers of clothing to keep warm in the outdoors. You will need wellies and a coat. Click below for more information about the forest schooling.
