The School Nursing Team

School Nurses promote, maintain & protect the health & well-being of school age children, offering help, advice, support & referral to various agencies, enabling children & young people to access appropriate education & provide up to date information to influence their future lifestyle choices.
School Nurses work in partnership with parents/carers & professionals from Health, Education, Social Care, Statutory & Voluntary agencies.

Who is the service for? - School aged children, young people & their families

What does the service offer? -  School Nurses offer advice & support on a wide range of health concerns including:

  • Individual & Specific Health needs 
  • Special needs
  • Child Safeguarding issues
  • Healthy Eating 
  • Bedwetting (Enuresis) & Constipation 
  • Behavioural problems
  • Parenting Skills
  • Infectious Diseases 
  • Contraception & Sexual Health
  • Chlamydia screening
  • Substances misuse 
  • Routine school aged Immunisations 
  • Audiology assessments / screening
  • Health promotion on a range of health issues including SRE
  • Tier 1 mental health 
  • Referrals to other services
  • Advocate for children and young people and their families 
  • Supporting families 
  • Referrals via school nurses, schools, social services etc 
  • Direct intervention, school based counselling, direct links to CAMHS       

What is the referral criteria for the service?  - Children & Young People attending mainstream state schools.
